Day Four NYFW FW 18 – EnnyLuap

For all the talk of diversity on the runway, there has realistically been very little change from established fashion houses on the runway and who can blame them. Looking at the demographic makeup of top customers or clients for most luxury labels would likely reflect the same distribution of the runway and its foolish to think otherwise. However, the real discussion is diversity behind the runway, an area that has seen remarkably less change than on it. Unless one is counting Asian designers, the majority of top designers or larger shows on the CFDA calendar are from Caucasian creative directors and designers. For any real conversation about diversity, more minority designers from African American, Hispanic and Middle Eastern ethnicities like Abu Hadesian or Carolina Herrera must emerge. This is where EnnyLuap felt a little more distinct and edgy as regardless of what was put on the runway, the focus was on BLah Blash as the black creative director in an official runway capacity. In fact, hats off to the Riviere Agency that continues to shine a light on emerging designers of different ethnicities as they did Cindy Moreira last year.

For those unfamiliar, EnnyLuap’s path to NYFW began with the brand’s early recognition by Vogue in 2013, the start of two years of ongoing features with the publication. Amanda Williamson, a 2017 Forbes 30 Under 30 Nominee for Art & Style decided that was the year for the brand to hold it’s first New York Fashion Week presentation and it’s been a steady ascent since then. Two years after her first show, EnnyLuap won the Belk Southern Designer Showcase and a resulting corporate relationship with the department store brand, essentially the Kohls of the South. In addition to having the brand presented to likes of Michelle Obama, Amanda is making things a little easier for other minority designers with her contemporary clothing label dedicated to timeless style, and high quality for women and children.

One thing’s for certain, Ennyluap lives by the mantra “Timelessly Bold’ and from the looks on the runway to the fabulous crowd off it, EnnyLuap definitely knows how to curate a strong collection. We look forward to seeing more from Amanda in the near future.
